Adventure Elopement Packing List and Tips
Hey there, you adventure-seekers and lovebirds! Are you ready to ditch the traditional wedding and tie the knot somewhere wild and wonderful like Alaska?! An adventure elopement is all about celebrating your love story in a way that's uniquely YOU, but before you jet off to your dream destination, let’s make sure you’re packed and ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
Here’s your ultimate packing list and some tips to keep things fun, light, and stress-free.
The Essentials
Your Outfits:
Wedding Attire: Think flowy dresses, comfy suits, or whatever makes you feel fabulous, and comfortable(packing a steamer to get rid of creases is super helpful). Also think of the time of year you’re eloping. Cold fall or winter months, think of accessories you can incorporate to keep you warm, like scarves, hats, hand warmers and blankets.
Shoes: Stylish but practical. Hiking boots, snow shoes, sneakers, sandals, water shoes etc – comfort and dependability is key.
Layer Up: Weather can be unpredictable and is very dependent on the time of year, so what you bring with can be vastly different from January to August.
Rings and Vows:
Rings: Don’t forget these little symbols of your love if you’re planning on doing a ring exchange.
Vows: Handwritten and heartfelt, make sure to keep them safe and dry for the duration of your adventure. Dry sacks or ziplocks work great!
Legal Documents:
Marriage License: Essential for making it official! Also, don’t forget a pen for signing ;)
IDs and Passports: These are pretty important and necessary for travel and legal purposes.
Personal Essentials:
Personal Items: Toothbrush, deodorant, wet wipes, make up for touch-ups, bobby pins, safety pins, and any other must-haves.
First Aid Kit: Just in case of minor bumps and scrapes. Bandaids, bug bite cream, and ibuprofen/Tylenol are a few essentials.
Snacks and Water: Keep your energy up with trail mix, energy bars, and plenty of hydration. Liquid IV are great for staying hydrated.
Adventure Gear
Backpack: A sturdy, comfortable pack to carry all your essentials. Make sure to do mock pack up before the big day to make sure that everything fits!
Navigation Tools: Maps, GPS, or a reliable smartphone app. I recommend AllTrails, you can download trail maps to use offline if you’re someplace without service.
Tent and Sleeping Bags: If you're camping out under the stars, you’ll need some shelter. There is gear made specifically for backpacking, that are small and lightweight, be sure to follow along for additional blog posts with my personal suggestions.
Environmental Protection: Sunscreen, bug spray, and rain gear are a few of my main suggestions for protecting you from the environment.
Headlamp or Flashlight: For those early morning or late evening adventures, you’re going to need some light, depending on when you’re planning your elopement. Even with the midnight sun during Alaskan summers, certain locations can still get dark.
Packing Tips
Keep It Light: You’re heading into the great outdoors, so pack only what you need. Prioritize comfort and necessity. Depending on how far you’re planning to adventure, you’ll be happier with less weight.
Stay Organized: Use packing cubes or ziplock bags to keep your items sorted and easy to find.
Prepare for the Unexpected: Bring a small emergency kit with essentials like a multi-tool, matches/lighter, duct tape, safety pins (again),
Test Run: Wear your wedding attire and shoes beforehand to ensure comfort and practicality.
A Few Bonus Tips
Check the Weather: Know what to expect and pack accordingly. Google [state] + [time of year] weather. This will give you a good idea of what the weather looks like during this time of year, although still plan for variations, like rain and wind.
Enjoy the Moment: The most important thing to bring is a sense of adventure and the plan to “go with the flow”. Unexpected things can, and usually do, happen. If you prepare for things to change up, it makes it a little easier to acclimate to the situation. This is your day – soak it all in and also HAVE FUN!
Eloping isn’t about following the rules – it’s about creating your own magical moment in a place that speaks to your soul. Pack smart, stay flexible, and most importantly, embrace every second of your adventure. You’re not just planning a wedding; you’re setting the stage for a lifetime of incredible memories. So, gear up, love hard, and let the adventure begin!
Happy eloping!
