Eloping in the North Cascades: Paige & Austin's Incredible Adventure

July in Washington’s North Cascades National Park is like stepping into a fairytale—a land where ancient forests, towering mountains, and breathtaking views come together. Paige and Austin knew from the beginning that their wedding day was meant to be an adventure. They wanted a day that was intimate, authentic, and centered around their shared love for the outdoors. And let me tell you, it was one for the books!

Getting Ready & a Heartfelt First Look

When Paige walked up, Austin turned around, and it was magic.

Pure, tear-filled magic.

The day kicked off at Paige and Austin’s cozy Airbnb, surrounded by Washington’s lush greenery. Inside, Paige was getting her hair and makeup done, glowing with that pre-wedding excitement. Her mom was by her side, helping her into her wedding dress, carefully zipping it up and adding the finishing touch—a necklace that held sentimental value.

Outside, Austin was ready and waiting, but there was a surprise in store. Earlier that morning, he had stumbled upon a huge heart-shaped rock while walking near their Airbnb. It was like the universe had placed it there just for them! We decided it would mark the spot for their first look, right at the end of a winding forest trail, surrounded by ferns and the majestic redwoods.

When Paige walked up, Austin turned around, and it was magic. Pure, tear-filled magic. Everyone—Paige, Austin, their moms, their little daughter, and yes, even me—was overcome with emotion. The love and energy in that moment were beyond words.

The Journey to Artist Point

With our hearts full and tissues running low, we packed up and started the scenic drive to Artist Point along the Mount Baker Highway. Paige and Austin had envisioned a ceremony backdrop featuring Mount Baker, and the stars aligned perfectly. The highway had been closed all winter and had only reopened a few days before—just in time for us to make it to the top. Even with 10-foot-high snowbanks still clinging to the mountainsides, it was as though nature had set the stage just for them.

When we arrived, Artist Point was stunning but blanketed in more snow than we expected. So, we ventured back down a bit, finding the perfect spot where Austin’s mom could officiate the ceremony. With towering pines, crisp mountain air, and Mount Baker peeking through the clouds, the ceremony was intimate and heartfelt—exactly how Paige and Austin had dreamed it.

Picture Lake & Pizza Break

After the “I do’s,” we headed down to Picture Lake, one of the North Cascades’ iconic spots. The timing couldn’t have been better; the lake was still, and Mount Baker began to emerge from behind the clouds as we started taking photos. Paige and Austin’s joy and excitement were contagious, and we captured some truly magical moments there.

After a whirlwind day of hiking, emotions, and photos, we were all starving. So, we made a pit stop at Chair 9 for pizza and breadsticks—a well-deserved break that gave us all the energy to keep going. We said goodbye to their moms and daughter, who went back to the Airbnb, and set off on one last adventure.

Sunset Portraits at Nooksack Falls

As the sun began to dip behind the mountains, we headed out to Nooksack Falls for a final round of sunset portraits. The light was perfect—soft, golden, and magical. Paige and Austin shared quiet moments and laughter, with the roar of the falls in the background. It was the kind of moment that feels like a dream, one they’ll relive for years to come.

Reflections on an Unforgettable Day

This day was truly everything Paige and Austin had hoped for—a blend of love, adventure, and unforgettable memories. The North Cascades provided a stunning backdrop, but it was Paige and Austin’s love that made the day so extraordinary. From a serendipitous heart-shaped rock to a snowy mountain top ceremony, this elopement had it all. And as the sun set on their day, I felt so honored to have witnessed and captured every beautiful moment.

If you’re considering an adventurous elopement, Paige and Austin’s day is a perfect reminder that sometimes, the most memorable weddings are the ones that blend spontaneity with a dash of wild beauty.
